Today was a great day for the foxes!! The students started off the day with a great breakfast and a lesson. It wasn’t just a regular lesson though…they got to write newspaper articles about this camp, what they enjoyed most and so much more. After this lesson, they got to go to the computer lab to type up their article in a document and make it look nice.
They got to eat lunch after the class and the computer lab and really enjoyed the variety there was for lunch today.

After lunch, they were in for a long bus ride to Horseshoe Canyon where they hiked around for an hour. They were so exhausted but there was fresh juicy watermelon waiting for them at the end of the hike so they can get refreshed. The next stop was the Royal Tyrrell Museum where the students learnt a whole bunch of things about dinosaurs! They went through the different times and also got to visit the planetarium.

After the visit to the museum, they had a picnic in Drumheller at a park where they enjoyed some hot dogs and hamburgers. They also enjoyed the sprinklers and pool. They took a final picture with a giant dinosaur and headed back to SAIT. They had a fun road trip back where the students sang, danced and napped. They were exhausted and went to bed right away in preparation for tomorrow being their last full day at Wynchemna!

Such an amazing day for the Cunning Arctic Foxes today! They started off the day with a great breakfast and two short English and French lessons. Little did they know….they had two more short lessons planned for the evening (which they enjoyed anyways). They later enjoyed a great and nutritious lunch and then they had to head on over quickly to the SAIT rink to play some hockey. They learnt about hockey, practiced some hockey essentials like passing and shooting and so much more!

After hockey, the students had another surprising activity planned. The teachers had promised them to take them ice skating since they hadn’t had the chance yet. Today, they finally got the chance to go ice skating on the Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary! They were so excited to find this out and had a great time skating. It was the first time skating for a few of them and they really enjoyed learning how to skate.

They headed back to SAIT after ice skating for the final two lessons of day and had to head back out to have supper at Swiss Chalet! They enjoyed a caesar salad, chicken and mashed potato with gravy meal. The vegetarians enjoyed a rice and vegetable stir fry.

The day wasn’t over yet for these Foxes though… They came back to SAIT for a Loose Moose workshop where they really enjoyed fun activities. The day was way too long for them so they made it to bed very fast and are fast asleep.

Today was a busy day for the Owls. They woke up a little bit earlier this morning to get their laundry done. Then, after the usual but always delicious breakfast of waffles, eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurt and bagels with cream cheese, they headed to their lessons. Although the lessons were very interesting, the students could barely sit still because they were so excited to try Canada’s national sport, hockey! After some drills and a game, the Owls’ stomachs were growling and they devoured lunch at Happy Hut. After lunch, they got into their tent groups and made T-shirts, songs and posters. After the students each took turns presenting their hard work, the stage was filled with clapping, singing and cheering! Even though our judges (teachers) were tough, the everyones hard work really paid off and we had an amazing show! After the competition was over, we had some pizza and snacks before heading off to bed. Another fun-filled day at Wynchemna lies ahead!

After a day of relaxation, swimming and shopping yesterday the marmots were ready for an adventure. They were back together in their respective breakfast groups and started the day once again with some nutritious and delicious breakfast. After some amazing lessons with amazing teachers the marmots had an amazing lunch! They had been very pumped for the great race all day and got started right away! During the race the marmots got to visit some of the most famous sites in Calgary, talked to friendly Calgarians, completed fun tasks like dancing with strangers, and taking pictures with a bear (No, not a real one, even though they tried looking). Marmots are happiest when they are eating yummy food and today they were exceptionally happy because they got to eat at one of Calgary’s best Chinese restaurants called U & me.

Today we had the long-awaited trip to West Edmonton Mall—the biggest mall in North America—for our foxes! Breakfast was quick, but nutritious and yummy as always! After breaky we hopped on the bus and the trek for West Edmonton began. While the foxes were tired, they made the best of the trip because they were so excited. Once they arrived, they were treated to an awesome, but quick, lunch before they got a chance to explore the mall.
The foxes had three options for the day: spending the whole day in the waterpark, spending the whole day shopping, or splitting the day in the waterpark and shopping in the mall. Half the foxes opted to split the day, while the other half decided to shop the whole day because the mall is so massive. The foxes who went to the waterpark had such a fun time that they almost didn’t leave! The wavepool was a great time, and the many different types of body and tube slides kept them busy the whole time. Free drinks and a hot tub for relaxing completed our time at the waterpark.
As fun as the waterpark was, exploring everything else the mall had to offer was just as fun. With over 800 stores and services including nine attractions, two hotels and over 100 dining venues in the complex, the mall offered so much to do for each and every fox. They explored candy, toy, clothing and shoes stores, watched the figure skating and even got a chance to see the seal show. The foxes had so much fun they could have spent an entire week exploring the West Ed Mall, but the day unfortunately had to come to end. We arrived back at SAIT at the end of the day and the foxes were so exhausted from all the shopping, exploring and waterpark fun that they had no problem falling asleep, anticipating the busy day to come tomorrow!

Day 1 – Sunday, August 5th, 2018

Today was the day all the foxes had been looking forward too for a long time. The foxes were very excited because it was time to leave for camping in the beautiful Rocky Mountains!! After a delicious and nutritious breakfast, all the foxes packed up their adventuring gear and headed out to the Pocaterra campgrounds right after lunch for a week. Upon arriving the foxes had their tents already ready for them and after setting up in their tent groups the foxes enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken souvlaki, tasty fruits and of course delicious salad! After a nutritious supper, everyone got warm around the campfire and ended the day on a happy satisfied note in one of the most beautiful natural places on earth.

Day 2 – Monday, August 6th, 2018

After an exciting night for the foxes (as most of them slept in tents for the first time), the day started with another nutritious and delicious breakfast. This time English style breakfast. The foxes could not wait to get started on the days adventures as this was the day they were going to go mountain biking!! Our skilled foxes enjoyed a bike ride on a very beautiful trail through the mountains and some of them enjoyed mountain biking so much that they decided to go twice! After that the foxes joined in on fun games including volleyball, soccer, badminton, Frisbee and etc. The day passed with the blink of an eye and soon it was time for another warm campfire under the gazing eyes of hundreds of stars.

Day 3 – Tuesday August 7th, 2018

The foxes were feeling so adventurous on this day that they decided to climb a mountain! Well not really, more like they decided to take a hike in the very alluring kananaskis backcountry leading to a captivating scenery beside a beautiful lake. After a delicious breakfast the foxes left early for the ~ 5 km hike and enjoyed the spectacles that Alberta had to offer. After the hike they had a delicious lunch beside Rawson lake and some foxes even decided to take a swim! Another surprise was waiting for the foxes because as they arrived to the finish of the hike they saw and felt a big chunk of snow for the first time! Many memories were made, many selfies were taken and much bonding happened.

Day 4 – Wednesday August 8th, 2018

It was a very early but also very fun day for the foxes today. The day started with a drive to the biggest tourist hub in Alberta, after some yummy breakfast, called lake Louise! Some of the foxes got off at the lake for a ride on some of the most majestic creatures on the planet: Horses! While these adventurous foxes were horse-back riding through nature itself, the others were on a bus ride to the great Athabasca glaciers head of the bow river which runs through practically all of Alberta. Some of the foxes were seeing snow for the first time, and the glaciers were a perfect way to see year’s worth of it at once! After exploring the ice fields the foxes headed back and joined their friends at lake Louise for a family picture. For dinner, they enjoyed pizza from a beautiful town in the mountains called Canmore and there is no need to explain how excited the otters were about that.

Day 5 – Thursday August 9th, 2018

After 4 days of adventure adventure adventure and fun fun fun the foxes decided to take this one for relaxing. They got out the piggy banks and the swimsuits and headed out to one of Canada’s most beautiful historic sites called Banff which the foxes learned is also a designated national park. The day in Banff started with yummy burgers, fruits and veggies for lunch after which the foxes explored the Banff village. There the marmots bought many yummy treats, explored the beauty that Banff had to offer, took many pictures and of course bought many cool souvenirs for their loved ones. While most of the foxes were exploring Banff some of them decided to relax in the natural upper hot springs. All in all it was a day full of relaxation, shopping, swimming and of course the never ending selfies.

Day 6 – Friday August 10th, 2018

After many days full of nature, bonding, campfires, s’mores, singing, dancing, games, sports, exploring, adventuring and of course English learning, it was time for the foxes to head back to the Wynchemna campus at SAIT. By now the family of foxes were an efficient team and quickly packed their bags, played some games, got last looks at the beautiful camp around them and made their way back to Calgary. Before leaving however the foxes had one last yummy lunch at the pocaterra camp for which they ate tortias, pancakes, lots of fruits and veggies and etc. The foxes finally arrived back home, took there showers and got what otters desire the most of all things, Wifi! The day however was still young so the marmots first had dinner at a Italian restaurant in Canada called Vanellis and than they headed out to one of the coolest nights at Wynchemna; casino night!! The foxes used the Wynchemna casino money to buy yummy treats and to participate in many casino games ranging form blackjack to bingo! They also got the chance to place an auction for some awesome prizes with the money they made. Before sleeping the foxes were given their shopping money and went to bed excited for the next day as it is time to go to one of the largest malls in the world!!

Today we visited one of our all time favourite places, the home of the dinosaurs, Drumheller!!! Another great thing, we got to sleep in today! This meant having a later brunch for our first meal which included a gourmet spread of sausage, eggs, fruits vegetables, bacon and waffles, prepared by our expert chefs: the teachers, with lots of help from all the students of course!

Next we had some time to fine tune our talent show performances, the halls were filled with dancing, singing and drawing as students created, rewrote and perfected their performances, we can’t wait to see the talent show what a talented group we have this year! After, we packed up all our belongings and headed off to Drumheller. The bus ride was crazy and fun as always with lots of singing, playing card games, solving riddles and performing magic tricks.

We got to horseshoe canyon and were so amazed by the view, that we just had to take 15 minutes of selfies. We then embarked on an hike through the beautiful canyon. After we cooled down with a slice of watermelon and headed off to the Royal Tyrell Museum to visit those palaeontologist’s prehistoric pets… DINOSAURS!!! We were fascinated to find out that most of the dinosaurs in the museum had come from right here in Alberta and many even from Calgary!

After visiting the museum we drove to the splash park for a BBQ. Our gourmet chefs again prepared a five star meal of burgers hotdogs coupled with fruits and veggies. Some of us played soccer and football and others helped cook and clean. After we went back to playing sports and hanging out with our friends and setting off back home to SAIT. What a beautiful sunset we saw on the way home! We got back and headed straight to bed, tired from our great adventures today and be ready and rested for tomorrow!
