WOW!! What a last day we had at Wynchemna today with the Marmots. We had our last breakfast today in our breakfast groups and of course we splurged on food with a massive feast….because, well, it was our last breakfast! After that, the Marmots brainstormed ideas for their newspaper articles and then proceeded to write rough drafts in the classrooms. The Marmots made top 10 Wynchemna moments, wrote about their favourite stories, interviews with other students and so much more. They then went to the SAIT computer lab to type up the articles and turn them into newspaper-style prints.
After the newspaper we finished the Marmots headed back to the residence and were such a help to the teachers as they cleaned their rooms and apartments. They then packed up their suitcases and then headed to the common room for the end of camp slideshow and the awards ceremony. Some tears were shed and many laughs were had during the slideshow which had pictures and videos from the beginning to end of the camp and everything in between. After the slideshow, the teachers handed out the awards, and each Marmot won a very specific and unique award.
After the awards were done, we piled on a bus for the last dinner together, which was great as usual. The Marmots were treated to yummy frosties after the dinner, courtesy of camp director Roland as a reward for being such well-behaved campers for the last three weeks.
The night ended with an awesome dance/karaoke party in the SAIT residence basement, where the Marmots showed off their awesome singing voices and dance moves. That marked the end of the night, as the Marmots have to get up oh so early tomorrow morning for their flight back to China.
That marks the end of another amazing, fun-filled camp and while it tears us teachers up to even think about it, all good things must come to an end. On behalf of San, Dylan Michelle, Ali, Mikaela and all the other junior teachers, we wish the Marmots all the best in life. They will be missed dearly by us Wynchema teachers.
We started the day by gathering in our breakfast rooms one last time. It was a fun-filled breakfast. After, it was time for one last sport, kayaking. As opposed to canoeing, we got our own boat this time. In the beautiful August weather we went for a paddle in the Glenbow Reservoir.
After lunch, it was time to celebrate the Canadian adventure of the last few weeks. First, we watched a slideshow created by the teachers which reviewed all the memorable moments of the camp, from the first day, lots of activities, down to today and everything in between. The students also had videos made for all the teachers of the camp and everyone shed a few (or many) tears.
Next we all headed to the grand hall of SAIT for the Wynchemna award ceremony. Everyone got the awards that defined them throughout the past three weeks. They enjoyed their awards and they enjoyed knowing what us teachers thought of them.
They went out for dinner at Denny’s after and enjoyed some frosties for dessert as a celebration of being such a great group. It still was not the end of the day and the students got to enjoy the evening at Karaoke Night with the rest of the students and teachers. They sang a variety of songs and danced along with each other. They all later went back to hang out with the rest of the group in their apartments and common areas to say goodbye to the many friends they have made in the past few weeks that will last them a lifetime.
Today was a great day for the foxes!! The students started off the day with a great breakfast and a lesson. It wasn’t just a regular lesson though…they got to write newspaper articles about this camp, what they enjoyed most and so much more. After this lesson, they got to go to the computer lab to type up their article in a document and make it look nice. They got to eat lunch after the class and the computer lab and really enjoyed the variety there was for lunch today.
After lunch, they were in for a long bus ride to Horseshoe Canyon where they hiked around for an hour. They were so exhausted but there was fresh juicy watermelon waiting for them at the end of the hike so they can get refreshed. The next stop was the Royal Tyrrell Museum where the students learnt a whole bunch of things about dinosaurs! They went through the different times and also got to visit the planetarium.
After the visit to the museum, they had a picnic in Drumheller at a park where they enjoyed some hot dogs and hamburgers. They also enjoyed the sprinklers and pool. They took a final picture with a giant dinosaur and headed back to SAIT. They had a fun road trip back where the students sang, danced and napped. They were exhausted and went to bed right away in preparation for tomorrow being their last full day at Wynchemna!
