The Great Calgary Race.  Today was another busy, action packed day.  Our newly expanded group’s students were divided into smaller teams and then given a series of places to visit and tasks to perform around Calgary.  It was like a race, and was based on the idea from that TV show.  We had to go all over the downtown core, taking pictures at various landmarks and monuments and asking strangers to help us complete some tasks.   As always, our teacher was there, but this time they acted more like a photographer/body-guard rather than a guide; we were expected to use team-work and talking with locals to help us complete the tasks, and the teachers laughingly left us to it in most cases.  Some of the fun things we had to do included dancing with a stranger, visiting Chinatown, finding out the height of the Calgary Tower and getting a stranger to draw on our shirts.  There was even a salsa music festival happening while we were in town, so downtown was busy and featured a great summer soundtrack.  It was sometimes hard to find our way about an unfamiliar city, but the people around us helped and we did pretty well despite it all.  We made great use of Calgary’s train system and went from one end of the city to the other.  There was sure a lot of walking too though!  However, it was all pretty fun and was a great chance to get to know all our new friends and a new city.  Calgary is so big and spread out, so we were well tired by the time the race was over.[AFG_gallery id='68']
