Chinook Winds - July 22 - 2013
The weather has been a bit volatile here in Calgary; hot and dry punctuated with periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Last night as we slept, there was a biggie! Many students said that it woke them up in the night! So, it came as no surprise today that weather played a role in shaping our day. We began with our classes and lunch, and had then planned on going to the lake in the city for canoeing and baseball. However, in rolled another thunderstorm just as we were leaving! This seriously altered our plans as being in a boat in a lake or waving a bat around during the thunderstorm would not be the best course of action, so our planned activities for the day were deemed unsafe and cancelled. So, given a number of alternate options, the greater number of students decided on going shopping in one of Calgary’s malls while the remainder stayed at SAIT and used the swimming pool at the recreation centre. After dinner we went roller skating at a full-on old skool roller discotheque. We all had a great time, rolling around on both in-line skates and the classic retro roller skates. Coloured lights, strobes and loud music added to the fun ambiance of the place and our group pulled classic roller skating moves like long conga style lines and huge groups joined at the hand. It was great, even the Italian students’ group leader loved the place! There were plenty of other skaters there too, so the roller rink was pretty packed giving the place a lively vibe. Our time at Lloyd’s Roller Rink went by so fast! It’s true what they say; time flies (or rolls in this case) when you’re having fun! It was hard to leave the place behind, but fatigue was setting in and we returned to SAIT just in time for another thunderstorm! [AFG_gallery id='70']
