Chuckling Bison - July 18, 2015 - Hiking in Kananaskis Country & Taking the Polar Plunge!
The students have been behaving so well and speaking so much English that we decided to reward them with a later wake-up time today! We had a leisurely but hearty breakfast then hopped on the bus to Kananaskis Country! We got to marvel at the Rockies in all their glory while capitalizing on a truly gorgeous day.
When we arrived at Wasootch Creek, we unloaded the bus and had a sublimely pleasant picnic lunch while enjoying the sweeping vistas and each other's company. Sandwiches and fruit and veggies, along with the sunshine and a balmy breeze.
Pretty soon it was time to start our big activity: a hike! We first strolled along a dry riverbed to admire the adventurers climbing on the rock faces, to get excited for another activity we are doing this week. Then we started our hike in earnest, ascending a steep section of the trail that took us right up onto Wasootch Ridge - affording us breathtaking vistas all around. We continued on for a while, snapping photos, enjoying the view, and taking in the pure wonder that Canada has to offer.
Our next stop was a quick sojourn at Barrier Lake, which also was simply stunning. Some of the students were daring enough to plunge into the cold water - more power to them! - while the others skipped rocks, took pictures, and relished the amazing weather we had today.
Then it was back to SAIT, where we cooked homemade pizzas, ate together as a large group, and welcomed two new students to the Bison: Vadim and Angel!
Finally, since this group has truly been phenomenal since they arrived, we chose two Students of the Day. One was Alice, for being selfless and courteous during the hike with another student; and the other was Tim, who is always pleasant, friendly, and helpful - and showed even more initiative today than normal!
So congratulations to those two, welcome to our new students (with more arriving tomorrow!), and good night!
