Chuckling Bison - July 23 2015 - Slippin' Around on Ice, Slidin' in the Grass, & Succeedin' at Casino Night !!

Another busy and educational day here in Calgary! In Jefferson's class, the students finished with the zodiac signs and then played a game to learn vocabulary about casinos and betting, in preparation for our big night event! In Joe's, they discussed dream analysis and tried their hand at interpreting each other's dreams. And in Fiona's, the Bison created time capsules - that is, they wrote letters to their future selves, describing their present lives and making predictions for ten years down the road. The lessons are always interesting, dynamic, and very original!

We spent the afternoon taking a whole group photo, serious and silly class pictures, and playing some really wild sports. The first was ice hockey, which we did in sneakers. Lots of slipping around, giggling, and competition. Definitely better than this teacher expected it to be!
Afterwards, we continued the raucous fun with Ultimate Frisbee in grass that was just blessed with rain. More sliding, spectacular catches, and laughs. This group really loves playing sports, and I'm so happy that everyone can be included in the activities.
We definitely worked up an appetite, running around and taking part in Canadian pastimes. We celebrated a phenomenal day with eating delicious shawarma and falafel al fresco. It was a gorgeous night, and everyone was in a good mood.
Then it was time for the famous Wynchemna Casino Night! We all cleaned up, dressed in formal clothing, and geared up for some exciting games. Five-card poker, Texas Hold 'Em, blackjack, bingo, and crazy eights were all played and enjoyed, earning the Bison lots of faux dollars to spend on our mystery auction at the end of the night! The prizes included a Wynchemna sweater, maple syrup, a Calgary beach ball, and school supplies. Not a bad haul for a couple hours of fun!
As an end-of-the-night surprise, we sang Happy Birthday to beautiful Ivy and presented her with a yummy cake! We like to make our groups members feel special here at Wynchemna.
Student of the Day today was earned by Lalo, for being friendly, active in class, and an all-around decent guy. Congratulations, and thanks for making this work not feel like work!
Yay!
