July 13, 2013 - Placement Exam, Cooking and Rollerskating
Today started with a minor bout of nerves; the placement “exam”. However, all nerves were quickly settled as the “exam” proved to be not bad at all, and it was a great way to start thinking in “English mode” for time spent in Canada. Students even got to write their “exams” in a great looking building on SAIT’s campus. There are students from 3 continents in our group, so English is easily the best way to get to know our new friends! After a quick lunch in the cafeteria, our group played a fun match of indoor soccer at SAIT, teachers too! Everybody played well, and an end to end match finished 5 to 3, in a tight game of international partnerships and missed sitters in front of the goal! Our group had decided to cook dinner at home today, so we made a trip to the local Supermarket. We decided together to make pasta and salad, and after a series of informal committee meetings and consensus gathering, the proper supplies were bought by Shaun and Amy. Everybody was given a role in the kitchen, some chopped, some mixed, some boiled the pasta and some put the sauces together. We ate as a single group, with cake and watermelon for dessert! The evening finished at Llloyd’s, a local institution that is a full-on old skool roller disco! We all rolled away on 8 wheels (four on each foot) to hits of today and yesteryear, under a scintillating play of multi-coloured lights! Good times! But tiring. By the end of the evening, after returning home thanks to our super-fantastic bus driver Roger, we were beat and our beds were a-calling! [AFG_gallery id='44']
