Piping Woodpeckers - July 30, 2014
Today was a big day at Wynchemna; camping preparation day! Sure we had our lessons and lunch as usual, but the focus of the day was getting our gear ready for camping.Part of preparing for camping meant we were put into "tent groups", small groups that would share the large tents while out camping. Each group was named after an animal; the Cougars or the Caribou for example. As a group we were not only responsible for our tent, but also for designing a poster and t-shirt for our group. Finally, each group was tasked with coming up with a ding and dance to introduce ourselves (and make our friends laugh). It was a lot of fun, and brought out the artist/lyricist/choreographer in all of us. All the songs and dances were great; the Foxes did a rap song, the Elk used actual live guitar (played by Cody), while the Grizzlies reworked Daft Punk for their song. It was wonderful to see us all come together and get over our inhibitions about performing in front of a crowd (besides, this was no ordinary "crowd", this is our Wynchemna family!).As part of our preparations, two of our teachers showed us how to put up and take down our tents, then let us practice with tents of our own. The tents were easy to put up and surprisingly spacious. I guess they will be our home in the Canadian Rockies for the next few nights. We also each received our bedroll and sleeping bag. For some of us, this will be our first ever camping trip! We hope to both see and not see a bear, as well as what ever other animals might be out there.Canadian Rockies, here we come![AFG_gallery id='201']
