Wolves and Wapati - June 27 - The First Day

The planes land, the luggage gets picked up (hopefully), and the students see the big skies of Calgary and the hallowed halls of SAIT: home of Wynchemna. When the students come in, they see the smiling faces of the Wynchem-teachers, in their staff shirts behind the tables, filled with goodies: water-bottles, t-shirts, and quarter contracts. Those contracts were all read through and signed thrice, so let’s hope the kids speak solely in English. The Wynchemna welcome is pretty tough, even though there are some great parts to it, like meeting the new teachers and the new friends - fifty one students! It’s tough because the students have to fight a terribly difficult beast: Jet-Lag. So we teachers fill the days with games and activities: soccer, dodgeball, where the west wind blows, and, finally, the night culminates in a lively game of Wynchemn-Bingo, where the kids had to mix together and ask each other questions in order to win. Though the real prize wasn’t finishing game, but the game itself: getting to know new people!Today we beat, or at least put up a fight against Jet-Lag. Tomorrow brings a new challenge: the English placement test. But tomorrow also brings a wonderful new opportunity: developing friendships with all these new people we've met.[AFG_gallery id='233']
