Today, after breakfast, we had a bit of a different morning. We felt it was imperative to acknowledge and show our respect to the legendary Harry Potter since today is his birthday. Kensington - a nearby area in Calgary - was transformed into 'Diagon Alley', a famous location in the Harry Potter series. As a result, todays English lessons took place outside of the classroom. Throughout the walk downtown, we spoke about Harry Potter and the students who were unfamiliar with the series engaged in detailed and elaborate discussions with those who have read the books or seen the movies. Many of us were baffled how a fictional series could have impacted the lives of so many people as we saw hundreds of local Calgarians donned in H.P. costumes, some even chanting magical spells as they waited in line to get into the H.P themed stores. On the walk towards lunch, we spoke about what topics and/or things in our lives we would completely immerse ourselves into and feel comfortable with all the stares from those on the outside. After a hearty lunch, the fox crew made their way to the University of Calgary were many of us learnt how to skate for the first time. One of the most spectacular moments was when the stronger skaters took the 'first-timers' by the hand and helped them skate. Believe it or not, this happens during almost every activity and it makes us teachers feel so excited and proud. After the ice rink, the foxy foxes ventured back to SAIT for a final English lesson as we worked up an appetite for our exquisite dinner at Swiss Chalet. Some of the students presented their utopian societies which they have been working on for the past few lessons. If only some of these students ran for President of America this year. However, the excitement was not over yet. We decided to have a throwback night and play some classic board games like Uno, Monopoly and other card games. Then most of the squad joined together from around 9-11pm to play a giant game of Werewolf - a basic game of skill and elimination where plays must persuade others they are not certain characters - where only the strongest survive.I can't wait to see what's in store for our last day before the camping trip!
