Long-Awaited Camping in Kananaskis!

Take a look at the the Turtles’ fun-filled week at the Owl Campground in Kananaskis, Alberta!

Day 1: The Adventure Begins

With excitement and anticipation, we set off on our journey to the Owl Campground in Kananaskis! The drive was filled with laughter, stories, and songs, setting the perfect tone for our camping adventure. Upon arrival, we eagerly unpacked our luggage and pur our tents, working together as a team. The sense of accomplishment was palpable as our temporary homes stood tall amidst nature's embrace. As the sun started to set, we gathered around the campfire, cooking mouthwatering chicken souvlaki and roasting marshmallows under the starlit sky. The crackling fire and the delicious aroma signalled the start of a magical camping experience.

Day 2: Rainy Day Fun and Playful Competitions

The morning brought unexpected rain, but our spirits remained undeterred. Embracing the rainy weather, we organized our very own Olympic games, filled with friendly competition and cheers. The thrilling capture the flag and exhilarating rounds of manhunt added an extra layer of excitement. Laughter echoed through the campground, and the rain only seemed to intensify the fun. As the sun peeked through the clouds, we knew that every moment spent together was a memory to cherish forever.

Day 3: A Day of Exploration and Delicious Delights

Day three promised adventure as we embarked on a journey to Lake Louise and the Columbia Icefields! Some students went horseback riding through scenic trails along the Lake and stopped for some ice cream. The other group of students travelled to the magnificent Columbia Icefields, leaving us humbled by the grandeur of glaciers. Many of the students had a delicious sip straight from the glaciers! A hearty lunch of hotdogs fueled our spirits for the breathtaking visit to Lake Louise, its turquoise waters leaving us in awe. As the day drew to a close, we savored a delightful dinner of pizza while gathering around the campfire.

Day 4: Relaxation and Evening Revelry

Today was all about unwinding and enjoying Alberta! A much-deserved sleep-in allowed us to recharge our energy for the day ahead. In the afternoon, we visited Banff village, indulging in shopping and exploring the quaint town's charm. Many of the students bought unique souvenirs like maple syrup, keychains, and other fun knick-knacks! In the afternoon, we went to a refreshing pool in Canmore and we were delighted to go swimming and play games. As the sun set, we gathered around the campfire once more, singing campfire songs and playing volleyball and football, all while relishing the company of newfound friends.

Day 5: Exploring Kananskis Park's Beauty

The fifth day brought a thrilling excursion to Kananaskis Park, where we immersed ourselves in the wonders of nature. Mountain biking had everyone's adrenaline pumping, and many students showed off their brave cycling skills! In addition to biking, we took a breathtaking hike through the forest and mountains to a waterfall. Amidst the lush greenery, we enjoyed a scrumptious lunch, replenishing our energy for more adventures. The day concluded with a spontaneous swim in the picturesque Water Valley Lake, leaving us feeling refreshed and grateful for the beauty surrounding us.

Day 6: A Day of Achievement and Wilderness Encounters

The penultimate day was perfect for an exhilarating 6-hour hike in Spray Valley Provincial Park. The students worked together, carrying food up the mountain to Lilian Lake, where we enjoyed a well-deserved feast. Nature rewarded our efforts with enchanting wildlife encounters, glimpsing a Grizzly bear and a Moose from afar. The students' determination and resilience were commendable, making it through the hike with unwavering spirits. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we started packing up, concluding the day with a heartwarming bonfire and s'mores.

Day 7: Joyful Farewells and Excitement at Edmonton Mall

The last day of camping arrived, and though bittersweet, we were eager for the day's adventures. Bright and early, we headed to Edmonton Mall, where the kids sang, played games, and shared laughter during the journey. West End Mall was a haven for shoppers, with the students finding delightful treasures to bring home as souvenirs. Some opted for the massive waterpark, relishing the waves and thrilling waterslides. As we made our way back home to Calgary, our hearts were filled with cherished memories, bidding farewell to the wonder of camping and embracing the excitement of what lies ahead.
