First Day, Welcome to Wynchemna!
Today was the first day at Wynchemna for the July 4th course, and what a glorious day it was! Throughout the day, students were picked up and chaffeured from the airport to our SAIT residence by Roland on our magic school bus! At the airport, students were greeted by two of our shining stars, Matt and Gunner! Waiting at Wynchemna were the rest of the best—Chantal, Laura, Gordie, Christopher and our captain, Ryan! Students had a check-in “passport” process in which they had to complete 5 tasks before they could head to their rooms: (1) Passport Lockdown (2) Swag Retrieval (3) Activity Sign Up (4) Map of Canada Photoshoot and most importantly, (5) they signed our Quarter contract, which means they have agreed and committed to fully immersing themselves in the English language! Because flight times were staggered, students engaged in a variety of activities throughout the day which included: a tour of the SAIT campus we’re staying at, shopping at the local mall, frisbee on the soccer field, ice breaker games and a cornucopia of tasty bites. We all enjoyed a dinner of local submarines and fresh fruit on the 7th floor, which was followed by a camp wide game of Get-To-Know-Each-Other Bingo! The game had students surveying the room meeting as many friends as they could who met the various criteria they were looking for (I.e., “I am an only child”, “I speak 3 languages”, etc.). Although it was a long travel day and students were jetlagged, they went to bed happy with a full belly and a bunch of new friends! We can’t wait until tomorrow to really get started
