Paper Clip Challenge and a Big Wynchemna Welcome!

First thing in the morning (and late last night) we welcomed our first wave of new students to Wynchemna!

Then, after morning lessons, students competed in the famous Paper Clip Challenge: A challenge in which each group of students is given a paper clip. Each team is tasked with approaching strangers and trying to “trade up” their paper clip for a better object, such as a pen, a water bottle After each successful trade, teams acquire greater and greater items. The team with the best item at the end of the of the game wins! And so, students embarked on an epic journey across one of Calgary’s more affluent neighbourhoods in a race against time and a quest for glory and prizes. At the end of the game, many teams had managed to “trade up” their paperclips into fabulous prizes including guitars, tv screens and even a few cell phones!

Upon completing the Paper Clip Challenge, students were rewarded for their efforts with a visit to Market Mall, one of Calgary’s most popular shopping destinations. Students were also treated with a meal from a popular restaurant chain.

In the evening, even more students arrived, each of them primed and ready for an incredible Wynchemna summer. Our group doubled in size over the course of 24 hours. New students were treated with a warm welcome from the students who had arrived earlier. We can’t wait to see what the future holds in store for us together.
