The Canada Day Celebrations and the Renowned Studio Bell National Music Centre!
What an incredible day at Wynchemna! The day was filled with many laughs, lots of lessons, some incredible sports and Canadian celebrations.
We began our day with our breakfast groups which were more chatty than ever. We cooked, cleaned and learned about the days schedule.
After breakfast, we went to our first two lessons of the days. In our lessons we learned about many exciting topics! In one class we learned about compound words and how to connect words through various themes. In another class we learned about line dancing which is a very famous dance style rooted in Calgarian culture. We also learned about all the indigenous peoples’ of Canada and participated in some traditional Indigenous games. Finally we learned about Canadian culture and how our traditions differ between students cultures.
After some good learning, we then had some well deserved lunch. For lunch we had Vietnamese Submarine Sandwiches! We had a vegetarian and chicken option. The sandwiches had peppers, onions, cucumbers, carrots, peanuts and much more!
After lunch, we went to the Studio Bell National Music Centre. This Museum is filled to the brim with Canadian music history, the Canadian Country Hall of Fame, the Canadian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as the history of music as a whole. The museum also contained many playable instruments and exhibits such as a Piano, Guitar, Theremin, Mixer, Synthesizer and Drum kit. Some of our own students played the piano in front of a crowd of Canadians and blew everyone’s mind! The Museum also housed many original instruments from famous artists and historic instruments in the development of music such as the arp 2600 that Stevie Wonder frequently used!
Once we were throughly entertained by the museum we left to Prince Island Park where many Canada Day festivities were taking place. We heard some local music as well as got some good Canadian sun. While we were at the park we played Football, Frisbee, Soccer and Volleyball. For a moment we thought we would be rained on but it held on just long enough for us to get back to our residences!
Once we returned we enjoyed an amazing dinner before our final lessons of the day. The meal was butter chicken and salad which was wonderfully cooked. After our final lesson we all went outside to indulge in some Canada Day traditions such as singing Oh Canada. Some of us then played a soccer game to celebrate while others ate cake!
We were so happy to be able to share in the Canada day celebrations with these lovely students. Today was a truly special day that none of us will forget for a long time!
