Chattering Flying Squirrels - International Supper - July 19, 2016
Today was a great day for our students who wanted to smell good. It was laundry day! Students filed down to the basement with bursting bags of dirty clothes. They stuffed the washing machines full and shortly after received their freshly laundered garments. Then they were off to a day of riveting lessons. They laughed, they talked, they learnt. They all wished their lessons back at home were as great as it was here at Wynchemna. In no time we were out to prepare for the main event of the day: International Supper! Each nationality was to cook two dishes to represent their own culture and country. Last night we were like our eponymous Chattering Flying Squirrels as we brainstormed ideas for dishes, eager to impress the other students with our own signature meals. We headed off for Safeway (our usual grocery shopping spot), Tops 100 Asian Supermarket and Edelweiss German Foods. Armed with their list of ingredients, students canvased the aisles in search of international delicacies. The fun was in the hunt. Then students were back in their apartments firing up the stovetops in preparation to treat their senses. Our head chefs expertly crafted exquisite, cultural entrees and desserts. In short: IT WAS DELICIOUS.After, the students then settled into bed, content with full stomachs. We all agreed that a taste of the other cultures was a piece of heaven.[AFG_gallery id='463']
