Galloping Western Mustangs - July 22, 2017 - Paperclip Game, Cooking Dinner and Board Games
After yesterday’s rigorously active day, we took today at a slightly slower pace, enjoying dynamic English lessons in the morning and then playing “The Paperclip Game” in the afternoon in a nearby neighbourhood. For the game, each group of campers was given a paperclip to begin, with the goal of finding out how great of an object they could acquire, simply by asking neighbours, door to door, to trade for something bigger or better than the paperclip. It was a great opportunity for them to interact with unfamiliar, local Calgarians and practice speaking. They did a wonderful job of cooperating together as a team and communicating with strangers! Taking home our loot (including a pair of hiking boots, a box of cereal, a cup and saucer set, and a Minecraft figurine), we stopped by a local supermarket to purchase ingredients for dinner. Students then prepared a meal together with their apartment mates. How great (and delicious!) it was to see the students sharing their international food knowledge and skills with each other. The evening wound down with board games and laughter together in the apartments. We are so proud of these campers for being active in meeting and getting to know new friends from different countries, for having a great attitude, and for always speaking English together.
