Laughing Sea Lions - August 1 2015 - Farmers Market, Skating & Granville Island
There is nothing better than the farmer’s market on a Saturday morning. The Sea Lions walked over to the UBC Farm after breakfast and bought some local organic goodies to bring home. The best buys included freshly picked cherries, carrots fresh from the ground, homemade applesauce and bread hot out of the oven. The food was so delicious that most didn’t make it out of the farm (sorry families)! As our lessons, we took a tour of the grounds to learn about organic farming. We strolled through many garden patches and visited the resident honeybees and chickens. The end of the tour led us to a growth of apple trees. After a delicious lunch at the Totem cafeteria we took on Granville Island. The unique cuisine in the Public Market had all of our students stopping to indulge and the shops selling local trinkets and artwork made for great souvenir finds. To continue our day of unique Canadian experiences we drove back to the UBC arena for ice skating. With wobbling legs our Sea Lions stepped out onto the ice. It was great to see the students helping each other glide, slide and stop. By the end of the session the students were chirped up by the crisp, cold air from the ice.Supper was at the great American restaurant, Dairy Queen. With enough fuel for one more activity, the Sea Lions learned the fun game of Ultimate Frisbee. In the fading light the game ended in a sudden death round. Each team chose one representative to complete a challenge- who could get closest to hitting the teacher with the Frisbee. The round was close but the team “Nooos” were victorious. With such an eventful day the Sea Lions went to bed early and are looking forward to another great day tomorrow![AFG_gallery id='348']
