The Amazing Race: Calgary Edition was held today! Each one of the Wynchemna students was part of a team (three teams altogether) that journeyed through the downtown core of Calgary trying to complete a list of objectives and places to visit. We had to work together as a team as well as work with the people of Calgary to complete everything as we moved from one of the city's notable spots to another. It was a great way to both see the city core and speak to local Calgarians. We were all impressed with the Bow River which flows through downtown and is bordered by a beautiful promenade that we can walk through and see geese, squirrels, ducks, a beaver and which is popular with cyclists and joggers. Other sights we saw as part our race included Chinatown, the famous Calgary Tower, the Olympic Plaza, and Eau Claire Plaza. We went from one end of downtown to another (and back again) and even made use of Calgary's C-Train to get about (it is free in the downtown core)! Not only did we have to visit various locations, we also had to accomplish various tasks, many involving a person from Calgary. Some of the tasks we needed to get done included dancing with a total stranger, having a stranger tell us their life-story, having a stranger draw our portrait on a t-shirt and so on. It was hard for some if us to approach random strangers, but Calgarians are friendly and helpful for the most part, so we all had a good time. Everybody in the group had to do something, so we were all engaged as part of the team. The first group to accomplish all the tasks and visit all the listed locations and make it to a restaurant called The Old Spaghetti Factory by 8:00 was declared the winner. We ate dinner at the restaurant and shared our stories about the happenings of the Amazing Race and discussed the city of Calgary with our fellows. After dinner, we walked back to SAIT and called it an early night, as we were all so tired…[AFG_gallery id='180']
