The Road Trip 2015

Phew! What an amazing and busy road trip this year from Calgary to Vancouver. We left "Wild Rose Country" Alberta to travel over the border to "Beautiful British Columbia," over the Great Divide of the Rocky Mountains. On our first day we stopped for an incredible three hours of whitewater rafting outside of the town of Golden. Luckily nobody fell in the water until the end, when our instructors let us jump in during a calmer section to lay back and float along with our rafts. We then spent two nights camping in Peachland, just outside of the city of Kelowna. There is a legend in Lake Okanagan about the Ogopogo monster, but the only scary thing we saw during our time there was an incredibly tall diving board to jump into the lake. Of course, being grizzlies that love water, we 'jumped' at the chance to swim in the lake's warm waters, along with tubing, eating fresh fruit, and using hot showers! After our days in warm Okanagan valley paradise we disembarked for Whistler. Eveybody loves Whistler for its great skiing and biking trails, but its breathtaking beauty is great from any angle. We explored Whistler from the Peak-to-Peak gondola in the morning, one of the longest unsupported gondola circuits in the world. We crossed from Whistler to Blackcomb mountain in fog and rain, and then in the afternoon we went zip-trekking from tree-to-tree over more mountain terrain. Every night we came back to our hotel rooms and enjoyed the accomodations not always guaranteed in camping, like a hot tub and heated swimming pool ;)We are now in Vancouver, and the weather has been wonderful. Crossing two mountain ranges and stopping along the way to take in the beautiful sights of the majestic natural beauty of Canada has been a great adventure for our students. Now off to new adventures and new friends in Vancouver![AFG_gallery id='331']
