A bitter-sweet farewell
Our last day together was full of happy moments mixed with sad goodbyes.
After a breakfast filled with everyone’s usual favourites, it was time to start our fashion forward activity perfect for our creative students. In groups, students were challenged with creating a wearable fashion design made only out of newspaper. In this challenge, students worked together to come up with a concept idea and to execute it perfectly on their chosen model in only a few hours. After lots of measuring, trimming, taping, and runway practice, teams were ready to strut their stuff!
During our runway show, we were able to see into the creative minds of our students as impressive designs like newspaper hats, purses, skirts, tops, and origami roses were shown off to our judge. All of the students radiated confidence and the judge was blown away by all of the vogue-worthy designs .
In this competition, there were no clear winners as everyone’s work was so impressive, however, there was a worst-dressed team, whose teacher was pied in the face as their designs were not quite ready-to-wear.
Lunch was served at the SAIT cafeteria, which energized us for our late afternoon activities of packing our suitcases and making and signing cards and letters for eachother.
After an afternoon of packing and writing heartfelt messages to eacother, it was time for dinner at Boston Pizza. We dined as one big family as always, sharing jokes and memories of our time together over a variety of pizzas and salads.
With our tummies full of comfort food, we made our way back to SAIT for a slideshow presentation filled with pictures of our favourite times together and for our awards ceremony. With laughter and cheers filling the air, teachers announced everyone’s special awards with their graduation package which contained photographs, a yearbook, and their certificate.
Just when we thought the night was coming to a close, the fun kept going with a party! The students let loose and danced with friends to a variety of popular songs for one last night of fun in Canada!
Saying our goodbyes after the party was not easy as more memories were shared which led to tears flowing and hugs all around.
We are all so proud of our students for embracing this opportunity in Canada and for their hard work in lessons, in our athletic endeavours, and thank them for being the great kids they naturally are!
“Don’t cry because its over, smile because it happened!”
until next year….
