Buffalo Jump, Frank Slide, and Waterfalls!
After the first week of meeting each other and learning, the students at Wynchemna had a day of sightseeing and fun. After a delicious breakfast we hopped on the bus and played tons of exciting games while heading to our first destination, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is a world heritage site where students got to experience and learn about the communal hunting techniques that were used by plains Indigenous peoples for over five Millennia at the location. We then enjoyed a nutritious lunch and made our way to the Lundbreck falls at the Crowsnest River. Students bounded from the bus to dip their toes into the cool glacier water and play. After some swimming and splashing the students dried themselves off and headed to their next exciting stop.
A brief bus ride filled with even more games and singing brought the students to a breathtaking area where a massive landslide occurred in 1903 near the town of Frank called the Frank Slide. Students carefully climbed the rubble and basked in the incredulous landscape before them. Following these we visited our final location in the evening at Crownest Lake for supper. Students played sports and swam together in the lake after an amazing day of play. Sausages and salad for dinner was a perfect ending to an action packed day. When arriving back in Calgary the students winded down and began resting up for another exciting week of learning and fun at Wynchemna.
