The Hares Camping in Kananaskis!
Day 1: The Camping Adventures Await
The day began with the students all packing up and ready to head out to the great mountains of Kananaskis at the Pocaterra Campgrounds! After we ate our breakfast and lunch, it was time to drive off to the campsite. Once we arrived, we unpacked and set up our tents before starting our first meal at the campgrounds. A hearty meal of Chicken Souvlaki, garlic bread, caesar salad, and spring rolls left our group satiated and ready to head to bed for the night.
Day 2: Lake Day Fun and Sports!
Day two, the students had a breakfast of delicious English muffins and fruit! After breakfast, the students enjoyed a relaxing time at the lake where they participated in activities such as paddle-boarding, kayaking, and volleyball. Some of the students also took this time to sit back and relax in the sun! There were many nappers in the grass. For lunch we had hotdogs and sausages with many students coming back for seconds. The day ended off with the group sitting around the campfire, enjoying the view of the mountains and stars.
Day 3: The Great Hares Olympics
On Day three, the Hares started off with a French Toast breakfast. Many of the students who have never had french toast before came back for seconds and thirds! After breakfast, the camping site was turned into an Olympics campgrounds where the students were split into groups and competed against each other! The played games such as Capture the flag, badminton, bowling, axe throwing, horseshoe toss, and jackpot. They also competed against each other with games such as log throwing and moving an Oreo from their forehead down to their mouths! After the Olympics, the students got together around the campfire cooking marshmallows and s’mores!
Day 4: The Columbia Icefields and Horseback Riding!
The day started off early on day four where the group had some croissants and fruits for breakfast before getting on a long drive to Lake Louise and the Columbian Icefields! The group split off with one group going to Lake Louise for the Horseback riding while the other group went further up to visit the Columbia Icefields. The horseback riding students enjoyed a full day of riding along the beautiful Lake Louise,. Both groups enjoying a lunch of Hot dogs, sausages, and chicken curry. The other group travelled up to the beautiful Columbia Icefields where they got onto some of the largest all-terrain mobility trucks called the Ice Explorers! The Ice explorers took the students up to the Icefields where they were able to fill up their water bottles with water from the glaciers. The day ended with a dinner of all kinds of Canadian pizza. The students had several choices from pepperoni, hawaiian pizza, jalapenos, and buffalo pizza. After dinner, the students headed back to the campsite to get ready for another day!
Day 5: Mountain Biking and Hiking
The fifth day had the students get ready for a full day of mountain biking and hiking at troll falls! The day started with a breakfast of delicious pancakes and fruit! Some of the students also had a dip in the river near the camp! After breakfast, the students headed to the trails where they mountain biked up and down the trails as well as did some hiking to see the waterfall! Some of the students also got to explore some of the natural and manmade beauties along the trail, including some wooden tents! Many of the students had never been mountain biking before as well which they thoroughly enjoyed! The view at the top was immaculate. In-between activities, the students had a lunch of noodles, cheese on crackers, salami, fruit, and cookies! After mountain biking and hiking, the students headed back to the campsite where they enjoyed a dinner of pasta. Afterwards, the students gathered around the campfire for some camping songs under the stars before heading off for the night!
Day 6/7: Adventures in Banff and Sulphur Mountain!
The 6th day, the students had the option to explore Banff or to hike up the Sulphur Mountain, a mountain that overlooks the town of Banff. Before heading off to Banff, the students enjoyed a full English breakfast of eggs, turkey sausage, and cheese. After breakfast, the students were off to Banff! Those who went to Banff were able to explore the unique architecture in the town as well as did some shopping there for some souvenirs for their friends and family! The other students went to tackle the hike up Sulphur Mountain which they successfully conquered! For lunch, both groups had sandwiches with meats, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles. After a long and fun day at Banff, the group heading back to the campgrounds for a dinner of cornmeal backbacon, pasta, and salad. Following dinner, the students gathered around the fire one last time before the final day to sing, dance, and get packed up.
