Camping Trip Part Two: Whistler
The ferry ride back to Vancouver was as pleasant as always. We scurried off the ferry and onto the highway for the long bus ride up to Whistler. Students took many photos on the bus trip of the beautiful mountains and lakes. Once we arrived in Whistler we checked into our resort and celebrated with pizza and time at the pool. It was so nice to relax in the hot tubs and then shower before a well-earned sleep.
On the next day the sun was shining and the birds were chirping as we woke up from our slumber. We gathered in one of the suites to cook eggs, bacon, English muffins, fresh fruits, and yogurt. After eating we walked to the Black Comb gondola to head to the top of the mountain. Students were in awe of the beautiful snow-capped mountains. After the gondola ride, we hoped on peak2peak which took us from Black Comb mountain to Whistler mountain. We took some wicked pictures at the Olympic sign, walked over a suspension bridge, and snapped some more pics at the overhang look out. It was amazing! Finally, we took a chairlift to the very top of the mountain to capture a few more special moments. We headed back down the mountain and spent the rest of the day exploring Whistler village. Students shopped and shopped and shopped. We made our way back to the resort for a swim and sauna and then hit the hay for the night.
It was an early wake-up on our second day in Whistler. Students were excited for the day ahead but also sad knowing this would be their last breakfast together. We tidied up breakfast and then packed our suitcases. Once the bus was loaded, we made our way into Whistler village to the ZipLining outfitter. We got briefed on how to put on our harnesses and then took the shuttle up the mountain! Our zip lining tour was also an ecological tour of the area. We learned about the geography, plant and animal species of the valley. Did you know all of the Whistler gondolas are powered by small water turbines in the nearby rivers? Well now you do! Students zip lined for about two hours suspended nearly 50 feet in the air. The old growth forest was spectacular and the weather was beautiful. Students were in awe of the beauty around them. Our tour ended and we drove to our airport hotel in Vancouver. We checked into out hotel before having a scrumptious steak supper at Moxie’s. Teachers Dustin and Adam presented students with their awards and certificates and we began saying our goodbyes since tomorrow’s departures will start early in the morning.
