Seniors ~ The Great Calgary Race

We started our day with a solid breakfast. Students enjoyed fresh waffles, sizzling bacon, and eggs. It was perfect for energizing us for some lessons. Campers were quite involved in teacher Calvin’s fishbowl lesson that involved memorizing vocabulary and acting them out to each other. Students also loved teacher Maggie’s lesson on teamwork! Students practiced communication and collaboration skills to overcome tasks and situations. While bumpy at first, students improved drastically and all got to try being leaders. Lastly, teacher Amos lesson called “thumbs-up, thumbs-down”, where campers had to predict peers responses to prompts and see what they think about one another. Following this, we had a lovely lunch at SAIT, which consisted of salmon, chicken, and pork chops. After eating, we prepped for our Calgary Race.

Splitting off into our breakfast teams, campers were given a list of tasks and locations that that they had to complete. The tasks consisted of interacting with locals and talking to new people within the city. The locations were popular sights that were scattered throughout the urban area. Campers were quick to meet new people, get them to sign their t-shirts, and even dance with them! This was done with little to no help from the teachers. These campers are strong at engaging new people and quick to ask for directions. With team Amos, campers loved to visit Chinatown and Prince Island Park. Team Maggie on the other hand enjoyed bubble tea and the Calgary Tower. Team Calvin appreciated the Bow River and the Millennium Skate Park. We ran around for hours enjoying the sights and locals. We concluded our race with a dash towards Rajdoot Indian restaurant. Many campers appreciated trying unfamiliar foods. Following that, we took the CTrain back to campus. Today’s camper of the day was Mateo! He was a vital member of his team and encouraged interactions between his peers and locals. An awesome day filled with adventure and growth! We look forward to tomorrow’s activities, which include some cleaning, packing, and a talent show!
