Scaling Heights and River Rapids: A Day of Adventure at Wynchemna!

On July 8, Wynchemna was a jampacked day for all 30 students. Starting bright and early with a hearty breakfast of cereal, yogurt, granola, toast, bagels, and Eggo waffles, we geared up for an adventure-packed day ahead.

After breakfast, we gathered and boarded the bus, heading to the Calgary Climbing Club. Here, we received a comprehensive lesson on rock climbing safety and techniques. Scaling the Rockwall, many of us challenged ourselves to reach the summit, discovering newfound confidence and honing our communication skills as we encouraged each other from below. We also had an exciting lesson on golfing from Roland. We got to practice our new golfing skills lots while enjoying the heat.

Returning to SAIT for lunch at the tower, we indulged in a variety of delicious options including chicken, pasta salad, coleslaw, and rice crispy treats, replenishing our energy for the afternoon's activities. A brief recharge period prepared us for our next adventure at Elbow River, where we embarked on a kayak lesson and ventured into the refreshing waters. With the sun blazing, kayaking provided a welcome cool-down, followed by an energetic game of baseball on the riverbank. Learning to swing, catch and everything in-between!

As the day wound down, we headed to Denny's for a well-deserved dinner. The menu offered tantalizing choices such as pancakes, crispy chicken sandwiches, California club sandwiches, and cheeseburgers, satisfying our appetites after a day filled with physical activity.

After dinner, we returned to campus for evening lessons, where we reflected on the day's experiences and continued to build upon our newfound skills. Recognizing outstanding effort and positivity, Peyton was celebrated as the Student of the Day, embodying the spirit of curiosity and growth that defines Wynchemna.

This day at Wynchemna was not only about outdoor adventures and delicious meals but also about personal growth and camaraderie. Each activity challenged us to communicate effectively, step out of our comfort zones, and support one another, fostering bonds that will last beyond our time together in Calgary. As we look forward to the days ahead, we carry with us the lessons learned today and the memories created as a unified group of learners and adventurers.
