The Grouse Grind!
Today was a most epic of days! We started our day, as always, with a delicious breakfast. Yogurt, berries, French toast, eggs, sausages, juice, hot chocolate, the options were endless! We needed a good hearty breakfast to prepare us for our hike, Grouse Mountain, or more commonly known as the Grouse Grind.
It was a challenging hike for our students, but they were eager to take it on. The Grouse Grind is only 2.5km long, but it’s a straight ascent with an 800m elevation gain! There are 2,830 steps. Our fastest time of the day was 47 minutes! Now, their goal was 20 minutes… but considering the record is 25 minutes, we think 47 minutes for their first time doing it is very impressive.
When we got to the top we opened up all our backpacks to unload our picnic lunch. Delicious wraps, lots of fruit, and granola bars to replenish our energy. We then toured around the top of the mountain to the grizzly enclosure! The bears were very close to us! We then headed to the Gondola, a well deserved reward for our hike up, and travelled down the mountain.
We arrived back on campus for a delicious dinner of chicken, pork, pasta, rice, potatoes, salads and incredible desserts. Then took some time to relax after our gruelling hike. We did a long yoga class all together, then a lovely spa night with some face masks. We ended our night with a birthday party for Dustin, one of our teachers! It was great to celebrate all together.
Another successful Wynchemna day, can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
