Thrills, Skills, and Casino Chills: A Day of Rock Climbing, Golf, and Fun!

Today we started our morning with a delicious and diverse breakfast that included waffles, cereal, yoghurt, and scrambled eggs with bacon - the perfect fuel for a thrilling day ahead! Next, the students began their first lesson of the day with a reflection and recount of their adventures in Drumheller. They also learned about the beautiful hills and hoodoos of Horseshoe Canyon, as well as the process of how they were sculpted by water and erosion over millions of years. It was amazing to think about how these natural wonders were formed! Next, the students switched gears to learn about the day's sports activities: golf and rock climbing. The students also expanded their knowledge about mountain ranges around the world, such as the French and Italian Alps, the Tatras, the Hehuanshan mountains and Iztaccihuatl. It was exciting to compare these majestic ranges and imagine exploring them one day. Lunchtime was a delicious treat with a choice between steak, tacos, a chicken rice bowl, or pulled pork, accompanied by a side of either fries or salad. The students enjoyed their meal in the SAIT cafeteria, filling it with content chatter and laughter and camaraderie. Finally, the students embarked on their third and final lesson, where they delved into the origin of Canada’s name and the underlying indigenous history behind it. This lesson was both educational and enlightening, giving us a deeper appreciation for the land we are exploring.

Next, the students excitedly departed for their afternoon sports activities, splitting into groups to tackle both rock climbing and golf. Both activities were an absolute blast! Whether scaling the climbing wall as future rock climbers, or perfecting their golf swings to a tee, the students were delighted to hone their athleticism with these new experiences. With beaming smiles, the students indulged in a lovely dinner of Chinese food from Famous Wok. The flavours were delightful, and it was a great way to unwind after a jam-packed day.

Lastly, the students of Wynchemna participated in their very own casino night. The room was electric with exhilaration as they played card games like roulette, bingo, blackjack, and poker. The concession stand was a hit, offering a diverse range of food such as root beer floats, ice cream, chips and popcorn. Music filled the air along with laughter and itt was the perfect end to an incredible day. As the day drew to a close, we felt grateful for the memories we made, the knowledge we gained, and the delight we had from beginning to end. Each day at camp brings new adventures, and we can't wait to see what tomorrow holds!
