A Dino-Mite Day at Drumheller: From Skeletons to Supper!
Today was a day of roaring adventure and prehistoric fun at Wynchemna! Our day began with an exciting lesson in paleontology. The students were divided into small groups and given the challenge of assembling a Styracosaurus skeleton. With pieces scattered around, teamwork and keen observation were key. As bones clicked into place, the once-mysterious creature began to take shape, sparking excitement and curiosity among the campers. Next, it was time for some creative brainstorming. Each student had the chance to design their very own dinosaur, thinking up characteristics such as habitat, diet, and special abilities. From desert-dwelling, herbivorous giants with camouflaged scales to fierce, fish-eating predators with bioluminescent patterns, the creativity was astounding. The campers proudly presented their creations, each dinosaur more imaginative than the last. For the third and final lesson, the students engaged in a lively debate about which dinosaur would win in a hypothetical fight. Campers passionately defended their designs, considering factors like strength, speed, intelligence, and special abilities. The debates were both educational and entertaining, with everyone learning a lot about the diverse adaptations of dinosaurs.
With stomachs growling, it was time to refuel. The lunch menu offered a delectable choice of a chicken rice bowl, tacos and steak, with a choice of side between fries or salad. Campers chatted animatedly about their morning adventures as they enjoyed their meals, recharging for the exciting afternoon ahead.
Our next destination was HorseShoe Canyon, a breathtaking expanse of badlands that promised a beautiful hike. The campers marveled at the rugged landscape, exploring winding trails and discovering the unique geological formations. The fresh air and stunning views made for a perfect outdoor adventure. After the hike, we headed to the renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum. The vast exhibits of dinosaur skeletons and fossils left everyone in awe. Campers wandered through the halls, taking in the incredible displays and learning about the history of these magnificent creatures. The museum visit was a highlight, providing a deeper appreciation for the prehistoric giants we had been studying all day. As the day began to wind down, we made our way to a dinosaur-themed spray park for supper. The smell of sizzling hamburgers filled the air, and the campers eagerly dug into their delicious meal. The park provided a fantastic backdrop for some evening fun, with volleyball and soccer games keeping everyone active and engaged. Laughter echoed through the park as the campers splashed in the spray features, enjoying the last rays of sunlight. It was a perfect way to wrap up a day filled with learning, creativity, and outdoor exploration. As the sun set, we gathered our tired but happy campers for the journey back home. The bus ride was filled with sparked imaginations, built friendships, and new-found memories to cherish forever.
