Jurassic Journey to Horseshoe Canyon and The Royal Terrell Museum

Wow!! What an amazing day for our Wynchemna Bobcats. We began our day with a delightful breakfast prepared by students in our breakfast groups. Afterwards, our students became palaeontologists in our three dinosaur themed lessons. In our first lesson, students created Pokemon inspired dinosaurs after listening to descriptions read aloud to them. In our second lesson, we were taken back in time to learn about the Albertosaurus, a real dinosaur that once roamed Alberta 71 million years ago. Students also learned about Drumheller, after reading articles and summarizing the key points to a partner. Our last lesson was truly special as students used their newly learned knowledge on dinosaurs to play a game of survival of the fittest, in transforming into Predators and Herbivores in a fun dinosaur game.

Following a healthy lunch, students helped to load the bus and set out on our adventure to our first stop, Horseshoe Canyon. On the bus, students made friends with others from different countries around the world as they played UNO, Sorry, Connect Four, and other card games.

Upon arrival at Horseshoe Canyon, we explored the Alberta Badlands and hiked the trails indulging its natural beauty. After enjoying the breathtaking views, we hiked back to the top of the canyon and enjoyed some refreshing watermelon.

The Bobcats were thrilled to arrive at our next stop in Drumheller, The Royal Terrell Museum. Here, we explored the fascinating dinosaurs that once inhabited Alberta millions of years ago! We even learned about the Albertosaurus in Canada’s Dinosaur Capital of the World!

To end our adventurous day, we visited Tyra the World’s Largest Dinosaur and had dinner in a local park. The Bobcats worked together to create a wonderful BBQ dinner consisting of juicy hamburgers and mouth-watering sausages. Students enjoyed the splash park, playing sports, and creating lasting memories together.

After a long and eventful day, our students deserve a restful sleep. But, the adventure continues tomorrow! We can’t wait to share all of our new stories and activities with you. Visit back tomorrow to read all about another exciting day for the Wynchemna Bobcats!
