It started off like any other amazing day at Wynchemna. As the sunshine poured in from our windows, we were up and ready for our most exciting day yet. We prepared our famous breakfast meals, piling our plates as high as they would go. Many students wondered if they could continue to eat such delicious Canadian delicacies back home. Winston was eagerly planning to buy some Authentic Canadian Maple Syrup to bring back to his family in Taiwan.Lessons were a treat. The teachers were all awed and proud that the students were improving their English at such a dramatic pace! Each day they took it up a notch, becoming more and more fluent, using bigger and bigger words in conversations. They were growing by leaps and bounds, and having fun doing it too. Then we went down to the five-star rated Happy Hut, hosted right here in our building! We enjoyed pork chops and vegetables, spring rolls and long noodles. Students ate to their hearts content. They would need the energy for what was to come . . . The Great Canadian Race! The rules were simple: complete the tasks on the outline and have fun. Students had to accomplish a list of objectives, including dancing with Calgarians, finding a fortune cookie, taking a photo with a bear and getting a portrait of themselves. We rushed off Downtown, all of us intent on winning. But as our race went on, students were drawn over by the beautiful, sprawling city center. We climbed on the Metawa Armory tanks, did kick-flips at the Millennium Skate Park, posed under the majestic Calgary Tower, frolicked down Stephen Avenue, explored the Plus-Fifteens. We went to City Hall, we roared across the Lion Bridge into the vibrant Chinatown, fooled around on Prince’s Island Park. The real race began when the storm rolled in. We rushed off to find shelter in the Core Shopping Mall. We were wet but refreshed. When the storm blew over, we ambled over to our classy dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory. As an appetizer we had freshly baked garlic bread and Ranch-dressing salad. For the entrée, we were offered a whole menu of choices: Marinara, Clam, Spicy Meat, Browned Butter and Cheese, Mushroom. Students took their pick and ate their hearts out. To top it all off was a big bowl of pistachio and chocolate ice-cream.They say there can only be one winner in every race. But today, we felt like champions, each and every one of us.What will the Chattering Flying Squirrels be up to tomorrow? Swing by again to find out![AFG_gallery id='497']P7280250
