Echoing Pacific Loons - Camping - July 17 - July 21 2016.
It was the 17th of July and the day has finally arrived where the students get to experience the great outdoors and majestic beauty of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta. The week began with wonderful sunny weather, a perfect beginning to what would end up being an incredible week camping with Wynchemna. The students arrived in the afternoon, and worked as a team to help unload the truck with over 50 tents, sleeping bags, and supplies that would be able to last us the week. The first day of camping began with a wonderful supper, made by the students, that consisted of a variety of fruits, some wonderful naan bread, and a mixture of chicken and vegetable dishes. The first night ended in a gathering around the fire, some s’mores, and then a warm sleep in the woods waiting the next days activities. The second day of camping began with a big breakfast, which was needed as the students prepared to go on a mountain biking ride across the mountains of Kananaskis while awaiting a swim in the crystal clear waters of the rocky mountains in Calgary. The students were jubilant while mountain biking,as the beauty of the view would amaze all comers, let alone a large amount of new comers who had never visited the Rocky Mountains. After the bike ride, a swim to rest and comfort the body was certainly necessary to heal the soreness and aches of a long day of biking. As the day began to conclude, the students were off to bed as many were awaiting the next days activities that would include horseback riding, seeing the beauty of Lake Louise, and the Columbian ice Fields.Through two days, the students were working wonderfully together to prepare all the meals, and it was that consistent team work that lead to an efficient breakfast prior to the drive to Lake Louise. The students were split up as some were more excited to horse back ride while others were more intrigued to visit the Columbian Ice Fields. However, both groups were able to enjoy a wonderful day out, and it was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Lake Louise and the Columbian Ice fields were tourist hotspots, while the Horseback ride showcased the entire landscape surrounding Lake Louise. The night ended a little late, as students were able to enjoy some hot chocolate before gathering around a fire for some wonderful sing a long songs. The final day of camping included a wonderful hike across Chester Lake, as the students were able to swim in ice cold glacier water while hiking a few ours across the mountains. The hike ended up lasting the entire day, and the students were exhausted by the time we ended up back at the camp. After 4 wonderful days, it was finally time to split up for good with our students. Some were headed to Vancouver, while others headed back to SAIT for a few more nights in Calgary. Tears were flowing as the bond between the students was certainly difficult to overcome for many. It was back to SAIT, while for others it was hello Vancouver![AFG_gallery id='471']
