Laughing Sea Lions - July 27 - Sailing Day

For the first morning of lessons our students became acquainted with the beautiful campus of the University of British Columbia (UBC) by roaming around to find the main attractions in their class groups. This included the huge blue whale skeleton at the biodiversity museum, the bookstore, the closest Starbucks (growth-stunting warnings will not stop our students' cravings!) and of course, the cafeteria. In the afternoon we set our course north for Jericho beach and our sailing lesson. The winds were just high enough that we could go our in pairs and groups of three to practice steering our sail boats and we enjoyed a beautiful day on the water. Afterwards we went in the water (some unexpectedly) for a warm swim in the Pacific Ocean, a first for many. A great day ended with a Capture the Flag game in the woods nearby our residence.[AFG_gallery id='333']
