The saying goes, "The early bird gets the worm", but in our case, the early loon gets the poutine and the company of two newly arrived, old teachers rearing to spend some time with students. Well, a student. After Ina from Germany happily settled into SAIT, we walked down through Riley Park to Calgary's Kensington neighbourhood. Sitting by the window, watching all the neighbourhood's characters stroll by, we traded stories of home, coming to new places, and taking advantage of new opportunities. The current opportunity? Eating poutine. There are no words for this traditional Canadian cuisine. Just come try it.After eating, we took our time at the sun dial, and a slower, scenic walk through Riley Park's rock garden. Stopping by a small stream, we threw petals into its flow, hoping - knowing - that the rest of our camp would go so wonderfully.Home, our new home for the next month, offered us a range of board games, to take away our last bits of energy. Then to sleep, so that tomorrow when everyone else arrives, we're ready.[AFG_gallery id='601']
