There are many camps here at Wynchemna, and sometimes, like today, they'll join together. Today the Splashing Snapping Turtles and the Whispering Northern Racoons, an unlikely combination, came together. Though these camps are different - juniors and youth - they share the common Wynchemna virtues. What are they? Well today's activities embodied them:First, after a long ride South, the racoons and turtles arrived just south of Fort Macleod. They explored a love of natural history at a World Heritage Site, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, learning about the ways the Blackfoot hunted buffalo. The turtles learned how to do an archaeological dig, that inspired some students for their own futures, while the racoons learned how to put up a teepee, gaining a respect for traditions of the past. So our students explored a love for learning.Second, the bus stopped at Frank Slide, the site of a huge mining disaster over one hundred years ago. Now the site's covered in rock and rubble that our students braved over. Another of Wynchemna's great virtues: outdoor adventure.Lastly, we stopped by the British Colombia Border, to have supper. A small barbecue beside a beautiful lake and breathtaking mountains - there's nothing more our students could have asked for. Well, that was until some soccer balls were brought out. Feeling the breeze coming off the water, we had a romping good time. The last Wynchemna virtue: having fun!Watermelon as the evening ended made us, racoons, turtles, and teachers, smile. Bellies full, we jumped onto the bus, and sang songs all the way home![AFG_gallery id='682']
