Last Days Laughter and Tears
As one student wrote so articulately in his poem, when we first came to Wynchemna we were all from different countries speaking different languages and with different cultures. But after three weeks of the magic of Wynchemna we became the best of friends. We came together for our activities, mixed ourselves, sat and talked with our new friends and made bonds that will last forever.
On our first day back from camping we were ecstatic to jump into our showers and wash off all the mud and grime from 6 days of camping!! Then we had our talent show and we showed off our amazing skills from singing, dancing to improv acting and inventing our own games.
Next the teachers had a surprise in store for us: Awards and Certificates! They gave us wonderful superlatives that described us perfectly. Each of us had something that made us stand apart and we loved it.
As much as we tried to stay up late we couldn’t, the luxury of our beds were calling to us and we fell asleep as soon as we hit the sack.
The next day after packing up and cleaning our rooms we were off to our party with three other camps! We danced the night away, singing our lungs out. It was an absolute blast. We tried line dancing and some of us were into acrobatics and breakdancing.
The dance lasted way into the early hours and when we got back we got into the hallways to say our goodbyes to each other. We shed tears and we shared hugs. It was a beautiful bittersweet time saying goodbye to our Wynchemna friends who we have grown so close to these past three weeks.
As the flights went out we gathered around the bus to wave one last goodbye.
We will always remember the amazing times we had at Wynchemna and we will always keep in contact with the friends we’ve made here!
