Stampede Breakfast and Tent Games!
Today the Caribous took on Stampede Breakfast: An annual tradition in which free breakfast is served outdoors to the people of Calgary (and guests). The event is accompanied by live music, including a local country music legend, dancers and a cowboy-hat wearing brass band.
After breakfast, students met with many local Calgarians to practice their English by asking them questions. Students met with volunteers, performers, award winners and even veterans! After finishing the assignment, many students took to the front stage and led a large crowd of lively dancers in line dancing. The band was so impressed with Wynchemna students that they threw prizes (including shirts and posters) at our group! The crowd went wild for Wynchemna!
Then, the students were placed into their tent groups (based on the iconic Canadian animals), and they used their creativity and imagination to come up with some awesome team songs with dances, posters, and T-shirt designs!! They also learned how to use sleeping bags with their liners and foamies for their camping trip coming up soon.
After putting their blood, sweat, and tears into their group creations, the students then put on their fantastic custom-made team T-shirts, and took part in the amazing tent games! During the opening ceremonies, the students presented their beautiful and one of a kind songs and dances that showed off their team spirit! The students then participated in the games that included multiple activities like tug of war, lifesaver pass, and the cookie challenge. They fought long and hard for their teams…and everyone came out victorious in the end!
At the end of the games, the teams presented their fun and creative group posters, and they were all so unique, artistic, and colourful! To end off the day, everybody enjoyed some delicious pizza and drinks.
The students are excited to embark on their Calgary Stampede journey tomorrow!!!
